We finally stopped for the "jumbo perch" lunch after seeing the sign along I75 for years. Very disappointing. The perch were definitely lake perch but they were regular size filets: about 3 inches by 1.5 inches the largest. They were so hot that they might have been microwaved. German potato salad was good but the French fries were not crisp. Oh well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

It's ok. It's not too far from where I work, so I go there occasionally (like once or twice a year). It's diner food for the most part. Sometimes the waitstaff is a little brusque. I do agree with Jen J. about the fish sandwich--it's a bit skimpy though the perch tastes good. I also ordered a grilled chicken Caesar salad the last time I was there--it was good, but I think they used mozzarella cheese instead of parmesan. It was fine--just not what you usually get.

Delicious clams, like we had back in the 70's at HOJO's. Good kids menu, perch included. Great homemade pies. Full bar. Easy off/Easy on I-75. No more smoking!

I stopped there on the way home from the U.P.. Had a burger and it was the absolute best. I enjoyed a burger with a thick slice of onion and an order of fries. The smell and taste of this burger took me back 50 years. Tasted just like the ones we used to get at a local restaurant at lunchtime when in high school. I look forward visiting Berger's next time I am in the area. May even take a special trip from Sterling Heights to Bay City just to have a burger.

Excellent value - good food, prices, prompt and friendly service. Good stop off I-75 on our way to Traverse City. Good alternative to the national chains. One downside - smoking still allowed in some sections.

Overpriced, I ordered a burger which wasn't that good. It tasted a little dry. I hear that the owners treat their employees like crap.

I've been eating here a few times a year for 30 years. I only ever get one thing, the Italian Steak Sandwich. This is one of my favorite meals. Generally speaking Italian Steak Sandwiches are only something I've found while living in Mid-Michigan. It seems to be a local thing, even if no one realizes it. I haven't seen them anywhere else in the country I've lived. That said, the prices are low and the atmosphere is "mom and pop", but clean. I've sampled other food they serve, the fish is generally very good. But I'll always get the Italian Steak Sandwich. If I had to pick a "last meal" that would be it.

Very dependable but not extravagant. I got the jumbo lake perch, daughter a burger and fries and wife a smokehouse grilled chicken wrap. Everything was very good and prompt service. You'll definitely want a large order of perch unless you aren't very hungry. Perch is a little pricey but not out of line for this area. The wrap was huge and good for two meals. Fries were very good Have been coming here for at least 30 years and always good.

I have eaten here once before and we waited for quite some time, but it was worth it. So today, we decided to stop in again. There were 5 servers for 8 tables, so we thought we were going to get lucky and get great service and food. WRONG!!! The server took 15 minutes for our salad side dishes, and she got my husband's wrong. Then took another 10 minutes to bring him the right one (how long does it take to scoop cottage cheese?). Then he got 6 large shrimp for $14.00..not worth it! My walleye was the size of a bluegill, at least the German potato salad was on the spot! Then we ordered strawberry rhubarb pie, and the server said it was homemade. The crust was flat, and not flaky. So I took a small bite, and it had that "gel" for flavoring, and hardly a piece of rhubarb under the crust. I sent it back, and the waitress just walked away with it. She comes back with the check, and a small box. She informed me that they couldn't take the pie back, I took a bite, and charged me for it!!! She boxed it up and said, "In case you want it for later" I said outloud, "I SAID I DIDN"T LIKE THE TASTE OF IT!!! SO I GET IT BACK??" The next table gasped and said, "Gessh, who makes you pay for stuff you don't like?" They just lost my business for GOOD!!!!

A fair dinning experience, with no real bells or whistles. Mom n Pop feel to the place, with very low prices. Portions were about average, not a lot, but nog skimpy either. Went for breakfast and ordered the Steak and Eggs. Ordered the Eggs "Over Easy" and Steak "Rare". Both were cooked the way I like them (which is kind of rate - hard to find a place that gets them both right at the same time. I still got to try the lunch or dinner menu.

Clean is about all I can say, that & service was good. We ordered breakfast, the ham wAs prossed, the home fries we can't figure out what the flavor was, toast was extra dried out, but eggs were good. It looked good but we all know looks can be deceiving

A few things about this place baffled me: 1. Food is cheap. While this is good, I would rather pay a couple more bucks for a more filled out sandwich. I ordered the fish sandwich, which turned out to be three small fried fish nuggets in between two pieces of white bread. There were no lettuce, tomato, or any other type of sauce. I understand this is what you would get when you pay $5 for a sandwich, but if they had explained what this sandwich came with, I would have paid more for additional ingredients (or got another item off the menu instead). 2. They charge you for refills. I can't honestly remember the last time I went to a restaurant that charged for refills. Of the few times this occurred, the refill was reasonable due to the restaurants being small operations, did not have soda fountains, and therefore had to pop open new cans for each refill. This was not the case here. The restaurant obviously had a soda machine in the back corner of the room that the waitress went back to get our refills. I have no problem paying $2 for each refill, but just out of principle it didn't seem right. We should have been informed. At the end of the day, I had a very cheap meal, but was rather unsatisfied, with the experience and the confusing menu that didn't explain anything.

Great family place good food as well. Had the whitefish sandwich and the fish was pretty tasty. Also would highly recommend the French onion soup, great flavor great cheesy ratio. Fair priced. Good spot to grab a quick drink on your way through too.
